In the near future Argolis Wireless One can be tracked by triangulation. This solution is cheaper and less power consuming than a GPS module, which is available as an add-on.
All sensors can be shut down and powered on separately if required. For instance, the GPS is down but can wake up if movement is detected.
For example; the MCU and GPS are woken up by a sensor interrupt. The GPS sends the coordinates to the LoRa network.
High energy saving and enhanced battery duration. During conversion of eg 5 voltage to 3.3 V will yield over 90% of the energy. Other solutions like LDO have only 66% return.
The SD card stores all collected data. This can be usefull if you want to save all gathered data for later analysis and send eg only triggered values like alarms in realtime.
Connected to the USB the Argolis Wireless One is always on. Connected to another power source like Vbat Vsolar you have options to power on the Argolis Wireless One conform your needs. Eg a power up each 60 seconds to measure the GPS position and shut down after the measurement.
Vbus and Vbat with resettable fuse to forthcome that the battery or pcb can not be damaged easily. A RGB LED to show status and a pushbutton for generic purposes.
You only have to connect a battery via the connector on the pcb. No need for soldering or an expansion board. The battery can be charged by solar or USB. In case a battery is not connected, the power can be supplied by solar or USB directly. The microcontroller can measure the status of the battery. If the battery is too low, you can receive an alarm via LoRa.
The RFM95(W) transceiver features the LoRa long range modem that provides ultra-long range ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimising current consumption.
A low cost external GPS ($5 board) can be connected to the board The on board GPS connector can also be used as a direct connection of BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) or WiFi.

The Argolis Wireless is one of the most power efficient and advanced LoRa development boards. Especially the extreme low power consumption, wide reach and advanced onboard sensors make the difference. Not only the Things Network but also nationwide commercial solutions like "KPN LoRa" are supported.
All these answers can be found in our manual. But yes, you can connect WiFi and BLE. A battery can be connected directly via the connector on the pcb. The LoRa module, SD–card, IMU, LED, baro/hygro/temperature sensor, GPS and all other custom sensors like WiFi can be enabled or disabled to save power.
Besides a long range is even more important a low power consumption. We achieved our low energy goal by using the most energy efficient IoT controller available and the implementation of a DC-DC converter. Every sensor can be switched on separately, disabled or powered down individually, especially GPS uses a lot of power. Even the microcontroller can be put in deep sleep.

The keywords are Sensor Fusion and Multiple Sensors in 1 package. If you've ever developed software with a 9-DOF sensor, you know that turning the raw sensor data from an accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer into understandable format is a challenge. The intelligent 9-axis “Absolute Orientation Sensor” combines above sensors and a microcontroller with sensor fusion algorithms to digest all the sensor data, abstract the sensor fusion and real time requirements away, and spit out data you can use in quaternions, Euler angles or vectors. Rather than spending weeks or months fiddling with algorithms of varying accuracy and complexity, the sensors are up and running in minutes. With Sensor Fusion, the Bosch System in a Package does absolute position tracking, all without external transmitters or transceivers like GPS.
The next generation LoRa gateways will provide triangulation, so GPS is not needed to fix a position for the Argolis Wireless One. This way you can use the add-on connection for eg WiFi or BLE module instead of a GPS module. Connected to the board directly GPS, WiFi or BLE can be switched on or off to save power. The add-on connector gives you the freedom to choose the GPS module you need for your application.
